Are you motivated by pain or gain?

Are you motivated away from pain, or towards gain?

Some of us in our life may well find ourselves in a mental, emotional and physical pit at times (I know I have) and although we may be happy with some aspects of our life, it can still feel like it is overshadowed by the things we don’t want.

Our focus is key…

Moving away from our discomfort while still focusing upon it will only ever lead us backwards, even if it looks like we are temporarily moving forward. If we only focus on what we don’t want (our old situation) we will give too much attention to it.

What we give our attention to is the direction we head towards, whether we want to or not.

If we want to keep expanding or growing we must make sure that moving towards something becomes our priority and focus. Even if that focus is something we want 'today' within ourselves like,  'I want to feel confident in the now' or 'I want to know myself better'.

If you want to achieve the life you want you are going to have to be the person who moves towards something out of ‘gain’ rather than away from ‘pain’. The type of people who only take action when things are difficult are the people who keep returning to the pit. This is no way to turn your dreams into a reality.

Learning and developing yourself in line with your vision/goal can be uncomfortable as you have to, ‘Step outside your comfort zone’.  This is why having passion for the thing you wish to achieve is essential. Napoleon Hill talks about “Having a definitive purpose” in his book ‘Think and Grow Rich’, which I would highly recommend as an excellent resource for growth. A definitive purpose, gives you direction and the internal energy you need to make it happen.

Ask yourself this question:

What do I have passion or a deep enthusiasm for?

  • Sharing love
  • Getting my ideal job role
  • My spiritual growth
  • Being the best leader I can
  • Raising happy and successful children
  • Travelling the world
  • Creating the home of my dreams
  • Transforming people’s lives
  • Having a happy family unit
  • Financial freedom
  • Becoming a yoga instructor

It really doesn’t matter what you want to achieve, it is just important that it excites you, and gives you a reason to move towards it.

Until next time...
